Make ecocide illegal

Criminalise ecocide in Scotland and support international efforts to make it international law

Why the contribution is important

Any governments or corroprations would be forced to consider how their decisions would impact the natural world and would be able to be held accountable for destruction.

An excellent idea, which builds on the work already done by Scottish lawyer, Polly Higgins.

I totally agree with this proposal. Making Ecocide a crime would change the playing field and enable government to take action against major polluters, and change the way businesses operate.

For those that aren't already familiar with the term, there are several excellent videos on explaining the concept of Ecocide as an international law, such as this one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8EuxYzQ65H4

I feel this topic needs to be high up on the agenda for the CCA to discuss.

This gets to the nub of the solution to the ecological crisis. We are all interdependent and the air we breathe, the water we drink, the plants we eat and the nature whose ecology nurtures and enthrals us should have the right to be natural and free from human contamination.

Didn't know Polly Higgins was Scottish - even more of a reason to pass this into law.
