Don't green, but multicolour, our unused spaces!
Grassy verges, roundabouts and underused areas should be allowed to flower. We need to stop mowing and stop spraying and allow wildflowers to infiltrate our unused spaces.
Local councils should be encouraged to bring back biodiversity and banned from spraying harmful pesticides on public land for percieved aesthetic purposes.
Why the contribution is important
Mown, monoculture grass is a biological desert, yet its what we continually strive for. It greatly reduces habitat, insect life, and soil biodiversity, all of which are essential to ecosystem resilience. The chemicals we use to control 'weeds' are polluting our environment, damaging our air quality and impacting our health. Wildflowers bring life to our urban spaces, connect people with nature, and cost a lot less to maintain than pesitcides and lawn mowers.
